Scalable SQL backup

You can make a customized SQL backup job that meets the needs of your backup strategy with BackupAssist’s SQL protection.  Your local machine will be automatically scanned for any SQL Servers, which will be presented for your selection in a drop-down list.

After selecting your server you’re then presented with a list of databases, meaning you can customize each backup job according to the data you want to protect.

Create backup jobs to protect both entire SQL servers and specific databases using BackupAssist’s SQL Protection.  It’s easy and comprehensive.

Near–continuous protection

With our SQL Protection Add-on, once you have selected the databases to back up, you can select either a Basic or a Near-continuous schedule for the backup job:

  • Basic backup schedule: Perform a daily backup of your SQL Server, while it is in use.
  • Near–continuous backups: This schedule performs transaction log backups throughout the day to cut your RPO to a minimum.

With the near-continuous capabilities of the SQL Protection Add-on, your data can be protected at 5 minute or greater intervals.  This provides the ongoing protection your ever changing databases need without the high costs of clustering or replication.

Combining the two SQL backup types gives you even greater protection.  You can run a transaction level backup throughout the day, as well as a full Server backup each night.

Customize your backup destination

Save your SQL backups to secure, fixed media with a selection of custom options to manage:

  • How long the backups are kept
  • How many backups are retained
  • How much storage space each SQL backup can use.

Managing multiple backups means you have multiple restore points if one of your backups is corrupted or unusual.

Restore your SQL databases to a point in time

When dealing with SQL databases, it’s important to be able to restore to a given point in time.  BackupAssist achieves this with a dedicated SQL restore tool designed for simple, effective and fast restores of SQL databases and servers.

With the SQL restore tool, you can:

  • View local SQL servers available for data restoration
  • Restore to a remote SQL server by name or IP address
  • Restore a master database if, for example, your SQL database is being recreated
  • Restore to specific company (user) databases
  • Enter a point in time, and the restore tool will locate the transactional backups closest to that point, reducing your RPO
  • Restore individual database transactions
  • Restore incomplete transactions
  • Roll a restored database, file, file-group or page forward to the point of failure

All of the packages except yours operated inconsistently (or not at all), several would not read backup tapes it created an verified, some could not access hardware or access was inconsistent, some caused system lockups or blue screen crashes... all of the above packages ranged in price from $900 USD to > $3,000 USD.
