Excluding File Types

Sometimes you may want to exclude certain types of files from your backup jobs. For example, you may not want non-essential data files (.bmp, .jpeg) such as picture files or music files (.wma, .mp3) included in your backup.

Excluding File Types

Launch the Windows Backup Utlity (Start > Run > ntbackup)

Go to Tools > Options > Exclude Files Tab

Set the file types you wish to exclude from your backup jobs by clicking the 'Add New...' button.

You can also apply these file type filter to particular directories that you wish to backup.
