Hi Brett,

Thanks for letting us know of your situation.

Unfortunately (as suggested by Linus in an earlier comment) BackupAssist isn't affiliated with Amazon S3Rsync and it sounds as if you're having issues with their service.

My best advice is to contact Amazon S3 directly to find out what the situation is and any possible workaround which they have available for this downtime.

Alternatively you could configure a temporary backup for your data to another cloud provider (if you have one) or to a local drive to manually take offsite while you wait for your service to become available again.

Sorry we can't provide any further information on this; however their service issue isn't anything we're able to resolve from our end.

Hi Robin,

The files which you've listed are usually within the 'WindowsImageBackup' folder, which is what's searched for by Windows Server Backup (wbadmin). Have you tried to search to the network location that contains the WindowsImageBackup folder (not specifically searched for that file) to see if this lists the backups?

If this doesn't work, then you may need to contact our support team for further assistance by sending details to support@backupassist.com.

Thanks,
Stuart

Your tests are useful for large transfers, but fail to test where there is a big difference due to latency.

Tests with many smaller writes generally show USB 3.0 latency to cause significant performance degradation vs. eSATA.

I installed a usb 3.0 port and an external usb 3.0 HD. My computer was a top of the line dell only 1 year old. Yet it seems to be no faster than usb 2.0 . Does anyone know if there is actual software for the layman to test out and make sure everything is running ok? Thanks

Great, now a quick run down on the "How To" of 2008 core wbadmin restoration of .vhd. Beofre purchase, given senario, 2x server 2008 cores implementations, Primary01 and Secondary02.
Secondary02 is the new Host as Primary01 has been stolen - have a 'BackupAssist' backup, now need to restore the virtual guest server. steps?

Hi Linus,
We bought 12 Western Digital MyBook Essential 3TB external drives (3,5") and cannot use them because of the same issue.
Windows Server 8 is supposed to support 4k sektors with the new .VHDX standard but is still a long time away from release.
A integrated solution in BA would be ideal! Keep up with the good work!

Hi Ben,

I think it happens when the drive size is over 2TB. As an experiment I put in a 500GB disk into the GoFlex 3.5" connector and it came up with 512 byte sectors. But I connected a 3TB disk to the connector in the same way and it came up with 4kB sectors. That was using the GoFlex USB 3.0 dock.

Hope this helps!

I've used BackupAssist v6 to image a Windows 2008 physical server onto a NAS box. I've then created a new Hyper-V VM on another server and changed the network adapter to the Legacy one in this post but I cannot get the repair process to list any system images from the network location I select. If I type in an incorrect network location then it will error but with the correct location it does not error but does not list any images to restore from. The directory I am trying to restore from lists the following folder structure:
.catalogues
Backup 2011-09-17 202526
Catalog
ProgramData
SPPMetaDataCache

and a file called MediaId

There are two (C & D drive).vhd files in the Backup 2011-09-17 202526 folder.

Any ideas ??

Many thanks

Hi everyone,

We have been able to implement a patch which ESET has passed onto us. Since we implemented this over 2 weeks ago, the system has no longer experienced a BSOD.
We have deemed this to be sufficient evidence that the issue can now be resolved easily.

To test this patch out, please direct your interest to ESET directly or add your details on the thread at http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=1865103#post1865103 so that an ESET representative can contact you directly.

Thanks,
Stuart

I took this issue up with Microsoft Australia on twitter (@MSAU) and they recommended using Seagate Constellation SATA drives (3.5") in Welland USB enclosures. Yes, they do work but are a lot more bulky than the 2.5" USB drives. I had to turn to these as the Iomega Ego, Samsung S3, and Seagate GoFlex drives had all failed to work correctly.
There is a Microsoft technet page IIRC that details which drives work and don't work but I can't seem to find it right now.
