Large Capacity for data. Cost Effective for single units. Easy Connectivity Size?removable hard drives are bigger than tapes . Less suitable than tapes for media rotation?having multiple hard drives for rotation is expensive and clumsy. NAS can be located offsite for automatic offsite backups. Scheduled backups cannot complete if network resource is not available/offline. Slow speed: backups take longer than when to a local device (depending on network speed). Media rotation is not possible; NAS must be stored in fireproof and secure location.
