Backup Individual Hyper-v Guests only

Postby avocado » Sat Jun 30, 2012 10:22 pm

Have been searching forums can cant seem to find a definitive answer!

Can you Backup Individual Hyper-v Guests only with out backing up the Host? I have a guest VM I want to do an incremental backup every 2 hours on. I also have been using Acronis Virtual Edition can see that you are able to backup hyper-v guests individually. With BA it seems to be all or nothing. We have 6 guests and the other 5 only require daily backups.

Hi,

It's Tim from BackupAssist. Thanks for your post.

If running Windows 2008 R2, this operating system allows for individual file selections with imaging so you should be able to select the specific VMs and back them up separately.

If running any other operating system, the File replication backup engine will allow you to backup only the Guest VM files.

This will, however, not perform incremental backups as the VHD file will be deemed to have changed with each backup and the whole file will be backed up again with each backup.

I hope this helps. Feel free to reply to this post should you have further queries.

Regards,

Tim.
