Hi Stephane,

Thanks for posting on our forum. I'm Michael Farquhar with the BackupAssist sales and support team.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your backups. I will be working with you to remedy this situation as quickly as possible.

It does seem strange that image backup from BackupAssist take significantly longer than the built in Windows server backup since we use the same engine.

When backing up to an external hard drive using multiple jobs previous backups should be maintained. If you run the following command, are all the backups listed?

WBAdmin get versions

"Incremental" type backups are being performed even though the schedule selected use the term "full".

We should also probably take a look at your diagnostics to review your setup and see the contents of the reports.

To send us diagnostic information please follow these steps:
1) Go to Contact Support (from the bottom-left corner of the console) ->Contact support
2) Fill out the form and ensure that the Submit system diagnostics checkbox at the bottom is ticked.

Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have additional queries or comments - I'd be happy to help.

Kind regards,

Michael Farquhar

Thanks for asking about your Imaging backups.
If you are backing up directly to the Root of your USB drive, the Imaging backup Engine will only write one Image file to that directory at a time, so any other backups on the drive will be overwritten.
If you wish to keep multiple backups on the drive, you will have to point them to write to a subdirectory.

I two would like to know how to have multiple image jobs use the same drive, by pointing them to a sub directory as stated by Sally. Please for the record inform us how to do this? When imaging to a local hardrive, only the option for drive selection is available, not to pick specific sub directory.

Hi,

It's Tim from BackupAssist. Thanks for your posts.

You will be able to run multiple image backups (not concurrently) to the same external hard drive.

Please note that only one image backup folder, representing the latest image backup, will be created and be visible on the backup drive.

To view a list of all of the backups stored on the backup drive, you will need to either:

1. Browse for backups via the BackupAssist Restore console.

2. Run the following command from a command-line interface with the backup media plugged in:

wbadmin get versions -backuptarget:X:

Where X is the drive letter assigned to the backup media.

This will list all the backups stored on the backup media.

Please note that running two different image backups to the same backup media is discouraged as it does not offer efficient space usage on the backup media.

If the backups are scheduled to run consecutively, each backup will be viewed as being different to the last backup and result in a 'Full' backup, rather than just backing up the changes made since the last backup.

This will lead to large amounts of data being backed up each time and will quickly fill up space on the backup drive.

I hope this helps.

Let us know if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

Tim.
