Encrypting Windows Image

Postby timbo » Tue Jun 19, 2012 6:17 am

Does anyone know a way of encrypting a Windows Image backup in Windows 2008? I believe it not possible using standard external hard drives but was wondering if it works with hardware encrypted drives such as the CRU Dataport 10. I am looking for a 5 day rotation with encryption. Any assistance will be much appreciated.

You MIGHT be able to use bitlocker to go, however you would need to make sure that the user the encrypted the USB drives that is being used by BackupAssist has logged on interactively after every reboot and before backup assist tries to use the disks.

You would also need to backup your encryption keys in a different fashion - i.e. recovery from encrypted drives requires the ability to read the encrypted data. You would be amazed as how many people only test the backup and not the full restore sequences. :(
