exchange exmerge problem

Postby jaye2 » Thu Dec 07, 2006 6:24 am

I am testing the Exmerge Add-in with Backup Assist.

1. I am able to run Exmerge manually on the same server with the same login account
2. When I try to run the Exmerge piece from BackupAssist I get "Subscript Out Of Range". This happens when I get to selecting mailboxes etc.

Not sure what the problem is.

Hi Jaye2,

Thanks for your post, this is Andrew from BackupAssist support.

The best suggestion I can make is that you follow the steps as outlined in the following document from our website - http://www.backupassist.com/downloads/E ... xAddon.pdf

If you are still having problems using the individual mailbox addon after this could you please enable debugging logging (View > Navigator > Information) and resimulate the error and then supply me with some diagnostic information - for help with compiling the diagnostics, please visit: http://www.backupassist.com/HTMLHelp/Tr ... upport.htm and send the diagnostics.zip file to support @ backupassist.com.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Andrew

zip file has been sent. My trial is up in 2 days and really would like to test this feature before paying for your product. Is there anything I can do?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the updated diagnostics file.

I have sent your information to our developers as I was not able to find anything that indicated wht you would be getting this error. To help work out the problem, is there any chance you could send me a screenshot of the error that you are getting?

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Exchange mailbox export problems

Postby Linus » Tue Dec 12, 2006 3:18 pm

Hello Jason and kfuemmel

It's Linus from the BackupAssist development team here.

I've been investigating your issues, and I suspect it might be due to having multiple storage groups, and our program not handling your specific situations very well - although it has passed through our general tests.

Can I just confirm with both of you:

- which version of Exchange you are running
- how it's set up (different stores on the same Exchange server?)
- what storage groups you have
- exactly where the error occurs (what buttons you press, and what options you have selected) - a screenshot would be extra helpful.

I would like to set up a test environment so we can replicate the error and hopefully fix it promptly - so any additional information you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Also, I can appreciate that you'd want to have this working 100% before purchase - so just in case you haven't already, you can email Andrew with your server name, and we'll issue you with an extension key.

Thank you in advance for information about your setup.

Kind regards,

Linus Chang

I am running

- Exchange 2003
- 2 Storage Groups - 1 Public Folder and 1 Mailbox with 4 levels of Stores under it (different quota limits)
- The error happens when I click on "Select Mailboxes" or it happens if I choose to do all mailboxes right after I click on the "Start Backup" in the brick level type

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

Thank you for that information. We will set up a test environment with those settings to simulate the error.

Please allow us several days to get this all set up - we'll do our best to get back to you by the end of the week.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

Regards,

Linus

I believe it's been fixed now

Postby Linus » Fri Dec 15, 2006 3:54 pm

Hello Jaye2,

Thank you very much for the information.

We believe we have fixed the problem. The issue was that our code only looked for the first Message Store under each Storage Group. However, now we loop through each Message Store.

Can you please test out our patch. I have uploaded it here:

http://www.backupassist.com/downloads/BAUG-EXCH.exe

This is not public yet - but if you report that it works, then we will put these changes into the next build.

Incidentally, we found that people with multiple storage groups and mailbox stores may run into this problem if their backup user isn't part of the domain:

"The user granted 'Associated external account' right must also be granted 'Full mailbox access' right."

We believe this problem can be solved using this method:

http://forums.msexchange.org/m_18004101 ... 1800410181

This seems to happen when mailboxes are upgraded from Exchange 5.5.

Thank you for your patience, and please let me know how you go.

Kind regards,

Linus

Tested your fix and it seems to pull up my mailboxes fine now. One more thing though. It seems to run successfully, it says that the job failed with a big red X, but I get this message....

Granting rights to export mailboxes.
Successfully granted mailbox rights for exporting messages.

Exporting messages for period: October - December 2006
Error 8007203a opening an LDAP connection. ('LDAP://********/rootDSE') (CADRoutines::GetNamingContextData)
Source server read from settings file is '*********'.
Number of items copied from the source store for all mailboxes processed: 969
Total number of folders processed in the source store: 173
1 mailboxes successfully processed. 0 mailboxes were not successfully processed. 0 non-fatal errors encountered.
Process completion time: 0:00:01:14

Does this seem right?

Well I must say that everything now works like a charm.

I have a request though. When backing up to file, one has the option to delete files in the backup folder before the backup. Is it possible to have the option to delete files in different folders also rather than in just the backup folder?

I need the ability to parse through a couple of folders and dump files based on age.

Exmerge issue fixed

Postby Linus » Thu Dec 21, 2006 9:23 pm

Hello all,

I've been working more on the Exchange features, and we have a fix available. The LDAP errors are not really errors, and BackupAssist will correctly deal with them.

Please download and apply the upgrade from this URL:

http://www.backupassist.com/downloads/BAUG-3_5_2.exe

We haven't made this release public yet - that will probably happen tomorrow when our dayshift support people will do the release.

Kind regards,
