BackupAssist Mirror backup

Postby Lego » Thu Jan 04, 2007 10:33 am

:D Hi,
I am running SBS 2003, for backup we use a NAS Drive.
Will BackupAssist do a mirror copy of a directory on the C drive to a directory on the NAS Drive. What I am looking for is an exact copy of a directory onto the NAS Drive from the Server with the files as is, not compressed or ziped etc.

I don't believe you can do this with BackupAssist as it runs on top of NTBackup. Why don't you just schedule an XCOPY of the dir you want to copy.

Hi Lego,

Thanks for posting on our forums. This is Raj from Backupassist Technical Support

Unfortunately you cannot achieve mirror image of the directory using the current version of BackupAssist.

The only suggestion I have is similar to the post by jaye2, i.e, if it is just one directory that you are looking to copy over, you could do so using a pre-backup script using the xcopy command.

I would also like to let you know that this is one feature we are looking to incorporate into the version 4 of the software, which is due to be released end of the first quarter this year.

If we purchased the current version now would we have to pay again in a couple of weeks time for version 4, or would we be better of waiting a few weeks for the release of version 4.

Hi Lego,

There is no official policy on upgrades to version 4 at this time, but the most likely path is that customers that purcahse BackupAssist v3 in the 12 months prior to the release of v4 will be offered an upgrade at the difference in price between the two versions, and customers that purchased more than 12 months prior will be offered the upgrade at a slightly higher price.

As we will be releasing BackupAssist v4 within the next few months there is no reason why you should postpone your purchase, as you will end up paying the same amount for v4 but can do so with 2 small amounts instead of 1 larger purchase.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

You can use RoboCopy which is part of the Windows Resource Kit. RoboCopy is a command line tool, but here is a link to a free user interface for it:

We use BackupAssist to make the full backups and Robocopy to do the directory mirroring you are asking about.
