Error #00102

Unable to launch Backup executor due to incorrect arguments.

Causes and resolution

Prior to version 2.3.2, this would occur if there were any special characters in your username or password of your backup user. Special characters include the quotation mark " and backslash \.

Try upgrading to version 2.3.2 or later.

Error #00103

Logon error when launching backup executor.

Causes and resolution

There are three known causes of this error:

  1. Your username and password for your backup user has been entered incorrectly, or they have changed since BackupAssist™ was setup. On Windows NT, BackupAssist™ cannot check to ensure that your username and password are entered correctly, so you must manually ensure that they are entered in correctly. On Windows 2000 and later, when you enter in your username and password, BackupAssist™ will check to ensure that they are correct before allowing you to proceed.
  2. Your domain server could not be contacted to authenticate the username and password. If you are using a domain, and your domain server is disabled and the username and password cannot be checked, then the login will fail. Please ensure your domain server is running.
  3. The Secondary Logon or Run As service is not started. You must ensure that the Secondary Logon service is started (also known as Run As on Windows NT). BackupAssist™ needs to logon as the backup user to perform a backup, so this service must be started to enable BackupAssist™ to perform the backup.

Error #00104

The backup could not be performed because the Backup Executor could not be started.

Causes and resolution

There are two known causes of this error:

  1. The Secondary Logon or Run As service is not started. You must ensure that the Secondary Logon service is started (also known as Run As on Windows NT). BackupAssist™ needs to logon as the backup user to perform a backup, so this service must be started to enable BackupAssist™ to perform the backup.
  2. One or more software programs on your computer are ""hogging"" the desktop rights. When a backup is started, BackupAssist™ logs onto your computer and needs to assign the rights to display windows on the desktop. Unfortunately the Windows Operating System has a limit to the number of logons assigned these rights (in technical terms, there is a maximum size to the Access Control List) and other programs have used up these rights. We see this very infrequently with Terminal Services servers. Try stopping unnecessary programs, and perform a reboot.

Error #15140

Permission denied.

Causes and resolution

BackupAssist™ must have permissions to access the backup hardware (such as the tape drive).

Please check that the backup username is a member of the Administrators group, and also the Backup Operators group.

We recommend using the Administrator user account for performing backups.

Error #20200

Out of memory.

Causes and resolution

When emailing the backup report, an error occurs and the report is never sent. Subsequent backups will occur but the report is not sent.

This is a known issue, and we are investigating the matter. It occurs on only a very small percentage of machines (>0.5%). If this occurs for you, we recommend that you send the backup report to a printer (in addition to email) to ensure that you are notified of the backup result. We also recommend reporting the error to us, so that we can notify you of when a resolution is found.
