Adding, editing and deleting file exclusions
BackupAssist can be configured to not backup certain types of files. For example, the folders you have selected for backup may contain unimportant or extraneous data files that do not need to be backed up (such as *.wav audio files, *.jpg images files or *.wma video files). Rather than individually deselecting each file, you can define file type exclusions. This means that only the most crucial data is backed up and you are not wasting unnecessary storage space or time backing up unimportant data.
By default, NTBackup includes a number of system defined exclusions which are listed at the top of the Exclusions Window. These file exclusions apply to all jobs so there is no need to add them manually yourself.
- Click Add to exclude a type of file. A new dialog box will appear.
- Enter the file type you wish to exclude in the form *.extension (eg. *.wav)
- Input the path where the exclusion should be applied either directly or Browse for it (ie. you may only want to exclude all *.wav files from a specific drive or folder).
- Check Apply this exclusion to all subfolders if you want to exclude the file type in all folders below the path the exclusion is applied to.
- Click OK to add the exclusion to the list or Cancel to cancel creating the new exclusion.
- Click Edit to modify a previously defined exclusion.
- Click Delete to remove a previously defined exclusion.
