How License Keys Work

Note: the following information applies to BackupAssist v3 and earlier. For updated licensing information about the latest versions of BackupAssist please visit http://www.backupassist.com/education/articles/faq-backupassist-licensing.html

BackupAssist will function fully for 30 days when you first install it onto your computer. During this trial period, you have full functionality.

To use BackupAssist beyond the 30 day trial period, you will need to purchase a License Key (also known as Registration Key).

Each License Key is tailored to your computer name and your organization name. This means that one license key will only work for that unique computer name and organization name.

If you change the name of your computer then you will require a new license key - you can request a new key by emailing sales_at_backupassist_dot_com with the details of your original order, plus the new computer name.

How to find your computer name

Anti-piracy measures

We were forced to take these measures when we found out that fake license keys were available on the Internet.

Using fake license keys and "hacks" deprives the software developers of income, meaning that less effort can be spent on Research & Development and improving the product.

Extension keys

Extension keys are also tailored to computer names, to prevent unauthorized sharing of keys.
