{"id":18430,"date":"2022-01-24T15:12:49","date_gmt":"2022-01-24T15:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.backupassist.com\/blog\/?p=18430"},"modified":"2022-02-17T05:14:23","modified_gmt":"2022-02-17T05:14:23","slug":"troubleshooting-guide-for-sharepoint-backups-with-backupassist-365","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backupassist.com\/blog\/troubleshooting-guide-for-sharepoint-backups-with-backupassist-365","title":{"rendered":"Troubleshooting guide for SharePoint backups with BackupAssist 365"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following this guide will help us pinpoint the source of any failures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"#section1\">Manually&nbsp;check and configure the backup user to be a SharePoint \u201cSite Collection Administrator\u201d<\/a>     <ol style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha;\"><li>Follow the steps in Section 1&nbsp;<\/li><li>Try running the backup again to see if it works.&nbsp;   <\/li><\/ol><\/li><li><a href=\"#section2\">Manually add the backup user to the Visitors Group for the SharePoint site<\/a>     <ol style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha;\"><li>Follow the steps in Section 2&nbsp;<\/li><li>Try running the backup again to see if it works.&nbsp;   <\/li><\/ol><\/li><li><a href=\"#section3\">Manually verify that the backup user has permissions&nbsp;to access the website via the web browser<\/a>     <ol style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha;\"><li>If this is not possible, then it means there is a permissions issue.&nbsp;   <\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"section1\"><strong>Section 1 &#8211;&nbsp;Objective:<\/strong> To manually configure a backup user as a&nbsp;SharePoint&nbsp;\u201cSite Collection Administrator\u201d.&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As the Backup User, authenticate to the SharePoint Tenant\u2019s Admin Site. There is an alternative procedure that grants read-only permissions to the backup user.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As the SharePoint site owner, authenticate to the SharePoint site you wish to back up.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>On the site, click on the settings icon, and from the drop-down menu that appears, select&nbsp;<em>Site permissions<\/em>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backupassist.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/rev-722-7a.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li>On the Permissions toolbar, click&nbsp;<em>Grant Permissions.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backupassist.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/rev-722-9a.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\"><li>In the top field, enter the backup username and click&nbsp;<em>Show Options.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\"><li>From the&nbsp;<em>permission level<\/em>&nbsp;drop-down menu, select&nbsp;<em>Visitors<\/em>&nbsp;and Click&nbsp;<em>Share.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backupassist.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/rev-722-10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" permission&nbsp;granted&nbsp;to&nbsp;the backup user.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backupassist.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/rev-722-14.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\"><li>If the backup user is as a minimum granted the \u201cVisitor\u201d permission, it should be possible to visit the SharePoint site in a web browser and authenticate as the backup user.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backupassist.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/rev-722-15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"66\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If by this stage&nbsp;you cannot access the SharePoint site via a web browser, when logged in as the backup user, this means there is some policy that prevents the backup user from accessing the site.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are&nbsp;several&nbsp;possible causes.
