If you were one of the lucky few starting the holiday period early, you may have missed that we released BackupAssist v7.4 a few weeks before the end of the year. BackupAssist v7.4 highlights include:
- Support for Windows 2012 R2. This support includes backup, restore and recovery of data and VSS applications, and non-CSV Hyper-V environments.
- A restore log file that contains a list of all files processed during a restore and the result for each file.
- A recovery options section for System Protection backup reports. This section explains the BIOS, EFI and Hyper-V guest recovery options for each System Protection backup

CryptoLocker & the backup impact

Last year saw the arrival of a particularly nasty virus called CryptoLocker. This ransomware will encrypt certain files and then demand a payment to decrypt them. The files cannot be decrypted, other than by paying, so the only safe way to get your data back is by restoring it from a backup.
