We've got some big things in the works for 2015. We can't wait to show you.

BackupAssist v8.2.1

The latest release of BackupAssist, v8.2.1, came out just before the December Holidays.

Although only a minor version, 8.2.1 actually offers some significant new features that we think you'll be pretty excited about - particularly relating to Hyper-V granular restores.

You can read a great rundown of the new features here.  Or the full technical release notes here.
As always, don't forget to check your Upgrade Protection is valid so you can upgrade to v8.2.1 and all the latest versions of BackupAssist.

Not 100% in the loop on what VSS is or how it works? We don't blame you, it's complex stuff!

That's why this month on the blog, our expert technical writer took the time to walk you through exactly how VSS operates, why it's necessary and how BackupAssist uses it in making backups.

This article makes a complicated issue easy for everyone to understand.

Definitely worth a read.
It's a brand new year with a brand new lineup of exciting dates for IT Pros to look forward to!

As our inaugural blog for 2015, we took a look at the biggest dates that are coming up this year for the IT industry.  Covering everything from conferences and events, to product releases and EOLs, this is your comprehensive guide to the new year.

Save these dates.
Last up this month, we put together a graphic showing how two very different kinds of IT Pros react to a disaster recovery situation.

Fair warning: don't go into this one expecting any serious info - this is just for fun! We're thinking you should get a decent chuckle out of it.

Of course, as an intelligent BackupAssist user, we know you definitely won't be falling into the second category... right?

Crack a smile here.

Headlines for Tech-Heads

Microsoft announced this month that it will be volunteering the expertise of its cyber-security professionals to the governments of 100 cities around the world.  The project aims to improve the standards of cyber-security globally.

Thumbs up.
UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, suggested this month that all strong encryption should be outlawed. The InfoSec community quickly took to Twitter to dissuade him of that idea.

Ouch.
Lastly, Elon Musk, a.k.a. the man everyone would secretly like to be, announced this month that he has donated $10 million to prevent AI from 'becoming evil' in the future.

Seriously.
