Product licensing and free period

The Managed Backup Console makes it easy to manage your clients' BackupAssist Classic, ER and 365 licenses with reports, alerts and a free period for all new installations.

Licensing

When a BackupAssist Classic, ER or 365 installation is registered, it is added to MBC and can be used as a licensed product. The subscription payments for that license will begin at the end of the free period described in the section below. A BackupAssist Classic or ER subscription provides one license. A BackupAssist 365 subscription can include multiple licenses so that one installation can protect multiple mailboxes.

Free period

When you register a BackupAssist Classic, ER or 365 installation, it is added to MBC and can be administered for free until the end of the current month or the end of the following month, depending on your region and distributor.

For example, if a client's installation was registered with MBC on March 16, that installation could be managed until March 31 or April 30 at no charge. From April 1 or May 1, the installation's subscription will be added to the monthly MBC billing cycle and charged to your account.

This free period makes it easier to onboard new clients as their BackupAssist Classic, ER and 365 installations can be immediately registered and managed using MBC, and the savings can be used to cover the cost of the onboarding or as a value-add for the client.

Registration

A BackupAssist Classic, ER or 365 installation is licensed once it has been registered with the Managed Backup Console (MBC) service.
