2008 R2 Enterprise and Datacenter - eSATA drives offline

Postby JBShope » Mon Mar 26, 2012 4:42 am

Hi all,

I'm currently trialing BA for use in my small business. I ran into a problem where the eSATA disks would not automount when attached to a 2008 R2 Server.

“The disk is offline because of policy set by an administrator”

This is due to a default setting in the Enterprise and Datacenter versions of 2008 R2. You would think that those two versions would be very rare in a small business setting, but that isn't necessarily true. If you are a member of the Microsoft MAPS program, the only version of 2008 R2 available for download IS THE Enterprise version. Since MAPS is aimed at small businesses there is a good chance that someone might run into this same problem.

This article discusses what is causing the problem and how to fix it.

Hope it helps someone from wasting a couple hours...
