How to enable software compression for your backup file

When backing up to a file, BackupAssist™ has the ability to compress your backup file using 7z compression techniques. Enabling software compression allows you to create smaller backup files and also offers the ability to encrypt your backup file with a password. Backup File Encryption

BackupAssist™ also allows you to encrypt your backup file with a password, and this is useful if you want to ensure the security of your data backups.

This password must then be entered in order to extract the backup file and restore your data.

To enable encryption, simply access the 'Compression Options' within the Options tab of BackupAssist™ (see Figure 1).

Please note: that if you choose to enable encryption for your backup file that you use a password that can easily be remembered.
