While most of us put tight security around our main servers, our backups can be left open and insecure. At least that’s what Dark Reading say in their article: Backup Databases: The Data Security Achilles' Heel. My backups have been secure since my wife kicked me out and I started sleeping in the server room each night.

At the same time, Eugene Kaspersky has said that backups can be the most effective method for eliminating another security risk. Speaking at a conference in Mexico, Kaspersky said that offline backups can ensure continuity in cases of cyber-attacks.

A recent breakthrough from European scientists showed that DNA material can store information at a data density of two petabytes per gram.

With that much capacity everywhere why not backup all of humanity’s achievements?
