Upgrade to v8!

We want you...

To try our MultiSite Manager
beta!

We've been working on a powerful new product to help you manage multiple installations of BackupAssist across multiple offices and sites.

It's called BackupAssist MultiSite Manager (BAMM) and it's almost ready for launch. But before we release it to market, we need your help testing it.  This is how we make sure that our software lives up to the rigors of real life use.

What does BAMM do? It gives you the ability to deploy and manage backups and restores across multiple sites from a central location.  Plus, you can use it to view detailed reports, receive automatic email alerts and manage licenses for all your installations of BackupAssist. All from one location!

Now you have the tools to securely manage BackupAssist installations over the internet.

Download BAMM today for free, take it for a spin and send any thoughts or suggestions to beta@backupassist.com

For your interest

How important is email to your business? We're willing to bet that losing your Exchange Server databases would cause a decent amount of trouble.

This is exactly what we dived into in our blog article earlier this month. For most businesses, the loss of an Exchange Server would have some pretty serious consequences.  That's why it's vital to make sure your backup software is pulling its weight when it comes to Exchange.

What should good backup software be doing? And more importantly, how do you ensure it is?

This article has the answers.
Don't worry, it wasn't all Exchange-related doom and gloom on the blog this month.

We also picked out the 6 most hilarious animated gifs the internet has to offer as a cheeky explanation of why backup software is worth the time and effort.

Crack a grin, have a chuckle and share it around.  You'll feel better about yourself for having an effective backup strategy in place!

Check it out.

In other news

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Facebook has managed to make the news for all the wrong reasons again this month.  This time around, it announced that two years ago it had deliberately manipulated users' feed results as part of a psychological study.  Moral and ethical outrage aside, the Atlantic had an interesting take on what this means for Data Science and the rise of Big Data over the past few years.  Read it here.

Next up, cloud sharing service DropBox recently purchased a Start Up and shut it down for reasons that aren't entirely clear.  The Start Up was called Predictive Edge and allowed marketers to personalize e-commerce offerings, send them to users and run A/B testing with the results.  As this is DropBox's 17th acquisition, with 5 of the last 6 focusing on services for enterprises, there's speculation that this is part of a push to position themselves beyond a consumer product.  Have a read and see what you make of it.

And to wrap things up this month - ever wondered what a WiFi signal looks like? No, of course you haven't. But you are now, right? Well a PHD student from Newcastle University has created a fascinating new device that allows you to see what your WiFi signal looks like in vivid colors.  Part tech research, part industrial design and part art: the resulting images will make you wonder who spiked your coffee with hallucinogens - and why you're okay with it.  Definitely worth a look.
