Is Tape backup dead? It's the debate that we all thought had been resolved.  Now we're not so sure.  At the beginning of last month, Sony smashed every storage capacity record there was by releasing a brand new tape technology capable of storing a frankly ludicrous 185 terabytes per reel.

That's a mind-bending 148 GB for each and every inch of tape...

Earlier this month, we took a look at the black-magic science that made this possible and its potential implications on your best-practice backup strategy. Is tape backup the obsolete dinosaur or the reliable veteran that just keeps on keeping on? This article offers the answer you need.

Physical to Virtual (P2V) is a topic that we get questions about all the time.  P2V can often have significant advantages over physical servers, but the concept can be inaccessibly complex if you don't have a lot of experience with this sort of thing.

Check it out and see for yourself what the big deal is about P2V with Hyper-V.

Facebook began experimenting with RAID via HDSF clusters last year as a way to massively increase its capacity and reduce data replication. This month, their engineers revealed that things didn't go quite as smoothly as they would have liked. Data corruption was a big issue, but it seems it was just one of many.
Here's what happened.

The Turing test was passed this month, but this doesn't necessarily mean humanity is at risk of domination by Artificial Intelligence any time soon. The victorious machine was essentially little more than a glorified chat-bot, masquerading as a 13 year old Ukrainian boy. The internet speculated that rather than measuring computer intelligence, this achievement is a much better indicator of human gullibility...

Finally, if you're a Star Trek geek like we are then this news is going to make you very happy: NASA's Engineering Directorate is still making steady progress with its goals to create a warp drive within our lifetime. This month, they teamed up with a design team to create a 3D artist's impression of what interplanetary spaceships may look like in the not-too-distant future.  And oh boy, they look good.  See for yourself
