Description

The destination volume is marked as dirty, and it cannot be used for backup before it is checked by chkdskerror.

This error is caused by the backup destination being in a state that prevents the backup from writing to it.

Resolution

This error is caused by the backup destination being in a state that prevents the backup from writing to it.

There are 2 possible resolutions for this problem

Resolution 1 - Perform consistency checks and disk maintenance

It is recommend to run a chkdsk consistency check on all drives that you're using to store your backups.

It is also recommended to perform a defragmentation of your destination drives as well.

Resolution 2 - Use a different backup destination to store the backups

Backing up to an alternate location should help achieve successful backups. At the very least, it will confirm that the original destination that generated this error was at fault.

Resolution 3 – Check any physical connections

Check any cables and ports to make sure there is no problem with the physical connection. Problems will physical connections can present as I/O errors and can be ruled out by trying different cables and ports.
