BackupAssist v4 and later

Description

BackupAssist has detected that your backup destination is nearly full.
This warning will not prevent your backup from completing successfully.

If configured correctly, BackupAssist will delete previous backups as required to prevent out of space errors.

Resolution

The error's known causes and resolutions are described below.

Resolution 1- Free up space on the backup destination media

If your backup destination is a local or removable hard drive, or a NAS device, you may need to delete some files to make room for future backups.

If you receive this warning while backing up to tape, or to CD/DVD or RDX disk, you may need to reduce the amount of data you are backing up or split the backup data into two separate jobs.

Resolution 2 - Use the BackupAssist storage options

If your destination can hold multiple backups (local, removable hard drives, NAS, RDX drives) you might want to switch to a schedule that does not keep as many backups, or switch to a full backup schedule, for example, a Daily Rotating Full schedule which will give you access to BackupAssist's storage options. These storage options will allow you to manage your disk space automatically.

Resolution 3 - Use a larger backup destination

There may be insufficient space in the location you are trying to back up to. If there is not enough space, you could delete some files at the backup destination to make room for this backup and future backups. Alternatively, you may need to use a larger destination. If you use a tape media or RDX disks, you might want to split the backup into two separate jobs.

Resolution 4 - Media Usage report options

Media usage warnings can occur if Media Usage report options is modified; by default this option is set to 90%.

To check this option you can refer to the steps below:

  1. Open BackupAssist.
  2. Select Manage Backup Jobs
  3. Select the backup job.
  4. Select Edit from the top menu
  5. Select Destination from the options on the left
  6. Expand the option Media Usage report options
  7. Check that the setting has not been inadvertently changed from its default. You can adjust this setting if you have a set backup policy where an alert needs to be generated after 70 or 80% of disk usage.
