BackupAssist v5 and later

Description

To run the backup, BackupAssist needs to request Administrator Privileges. The Backup User must be a member of the Domain Admins group or the local Administrators group.

Background Information: UAC is the permissions system that was introduced in Vista, most commonly recognized as popup messages to request Administrative Privileges when performing tasks like installing software. This was introduced to counteract trojans and malware.

You are receiving this error because you are running on an operating system prior to Vista, or because your backup user does not have Administrative privileges.

Resolution

Make sure that your backup user is a member of the Domain Admins or Administrators group.

Please note: On Vista and Server 2008 and later operating systems, it is no longer sufficient that the backup user is part of the Backup Operators group.

Note: On operating systems older than Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, System Protection backups use NTBackup. If you import a System Protection backup job from a Window 2008 or newer server, to a Windows 2003 /2000 server, your backup will fail. You will need to re-create the backup job so that System Protection will detect and use NTBackup.
