Description
File based backups within BackupAssist copy NTFS security attributes and alternate data streams by default.
This error message indicates that the destination does not support the copying of these attributes and data streams, or that the user does not have sufficient permissions to do so.
Resolution
Where possible, select a destination using the NTFS file system. If using a USB HDD, consider reformatting the device using the NTFS file system.
Where it is not possible to use an NTFS file system for the destination, disable the copying of NTFS security attributes and alternate data streams by doing the following.
File Protection backup
- Select the BackupAssist, 'Backup' tab.
- Select 'Manage' from the top menu. A list of all backup jobs will be displayed.
- Select the backup job you want to modify, and select 'Edit'.
- Select the 'Replication Options' configuration item on the left.
- From Copy NTFS security attributes and alternate data streams select For backups of VSS applications.

File Archiving backup
- Select the BackupAssist, 'Backup' tab.
- Select 'Manage' from the top menu. A list of all backup jobs will be displayed.
- Select the backup job you want to modify, and select 'Edit'.
- Select the 'Zip Options' configuration item on the left.
- Tick 'Suppress NTFS streams warnings'
