Description
The reason for this error is that the Exchange consistency check, which Windows runs on the Exchange Database(s) during the backup process, has failed.
This usually occurs due to an underlying issue with the Exchange Server.
Resolution
To resolve this problem, run a consistency and integrity check on the Exchange Server. These will usually detect and attempt to fix any issues with the Exchange Database.
For Exchange 2016 and later
There is a known issue that can occur when performing the consistency check which results in the following error on the backup report: Operation terminated with error -1811 (JET_errFileNotFound, File not found)
It has been confirmed that installing Cumulative Update 3 (CU3) for Exchange 2016 resolves this error. More information and access to download CU3 is available from the following Microsoft link:

The MailboxRepairRequest tool is provided with Exchange 2010 for this purpose.

Isinteg and eseutil are tools provided natively by Microsoft for such a purpose.
