Checking backups

Each time a backup task runs, its results should be checked to ensure that it ran as intended. Even if a backup task is running fine, problems can occur as the data being backed up changes and grows.

BackupAssist 365 makes checking your backups easy with a set of reporting features.

Daily backup report

BackupAssist 365 can send a daily backup report with the results of all backup tasks that ran since the last report.

The report is configured in the Email reports tab as detailed in the Setting up reports guide.

Backup reports tab

The Backup reports tab shows the outcomes of backup tasks at a glance. All past backups are listed and can be filtered by task and date range.

Click any task to view its backup report in the pane below it.

Skipped items

Files that are in use can be locked, preventing them from being backed up. It's important to make sure this is not a common event and that the required files are being backed up consistently.

Skipped files are not errors and can occur in tasks that report a Success, so BackupAssist 365 has a dedicated Skipped items tab.

Click on the task to see what files were skipped in past backups. This makes it easy to see if any files are frequently skipped in case there is a pattern that needs to be resolved.
