Open Files Window: backing up open files

The Open Files Window is where you can configure setting to backup files that are open or in-use during the backup process.

For File Replication, Zip, and Rsync jobs BackupAssist uses the Microsoft® Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) service for backing up open files. With VSS enabled BackupAssist can notify VSS aware applications so that data is in a consistent state when the backup runs, which means that live application data like Exchange and SQL databases can be backed up. Such applications are automatically detected and listed for selection in the File and Folders window.
