Exchange Window: backing up Exchange server data

In the Exchange Window you can setup BackupAssist to backup Microsoft Exchange Servers. There are two types of Exchange Server backup available:

Backup jobs created using the Exchange Mailbox Method will only export individual mailbox data to PST files on disk without copying mailbox data to another backup device (tape, writable media, external hard drive, etc). This is useful if you want to have multiple mailbox backups scheduled throughout the day.
Learn more about the Exchange Mailbox Method

To access the Exchange Window:

  1. Click Jobs in the navigation bar
  2. Right-click the job you want to modify and select Edit.
  3. Click Exchange Servers on the left menu.

Exchange server selection
Add one or more Exchange servers for backup to your backup device. The backup of each server can be configured separately to backup Exchange storage groups, individual mailboxes (Exchange Mailbox Add-on required), or both.

Mailbox backup options **
If you are exporting individual mailboxes from an Exchange server, you can configure storage settings for PST mailbox backups here.

Mailbox export status *
Here you can view the history of recent exports of mailbox data that have occurred. It is recommended that you perform a manual export of your selected mailboxes to separate PST files before the first automated backup is scheduled to run. Depending on the size of your Exchange server and the mailboxes you have selected to backup, the initial export may take quite a while to complete.

* This option only applies if you have chosen to backup individual mailboxes in the Exchange server selection section.
** This option will not appear if your job was created using the Exchange Mailbox method; it is instead available in the Destination Window.
