File Archiving

Create compressed backups of files, folders and applications with support for an extensive range of backup destinations including tape devices.

VSS-aware: Applications such as SQL, Hyper-V, Exchange and SharePoint can be backed up while they are running.
Data compression in real time while your backup is taking place.
Destination support for: external disks, optical disk, RDX drives, flash drives, local directories, NAS devices, iSCSI targets and FTP destinations.
Tape drive support using the Zip-to-Tape Add-on
Customized schedules for full, differential, incremental and data copy backups with built in media rotation.
Encrypt your backups at their destination using 256-bit AES encryption.
Retain data properties such as file attributes and NTFS access control lists.

Extensive backup options

File Archiving's intuitive wizard steps you through the process of creating a backup job with data selection, destination configuration and schedule customization.

  • If you use removable media like a tape drive, BackupAssist labels it to help manage your backup rotation and warns you if the incorrect media is inserted.
  • Backup schedules that are tailored to the backup destination and can be used to manage both daily and historical (archive) backups.
  • Customize email reports for backups and restores using a managed recipients list.

Easy and effective restores

Search multiple backups at once or browse single backups all in the same intuitive interface. File Archiving backups use the Restore Console to:

  • Restore files and folders.
  • Restore VSS applications such as Exchange and SQL databases.
  • Restore full Hyper-V guests and data from inside of Hyper-V hosts.

File Archiving backups can also be used to restore individual mail items using the Exchange Granular Restore Add-on.

High performance data compression

Our File Archiving technology features multi-threading architecture that's been tuned for performance. In terms of speed, it outperforms WinZIP and WinRAR by as much as a factor of 12 (see our File Archiving Performance Comparison), making it one of the best ZIP solutions for even the most demanding business backups.

Data encryption

Protect your organisation's data so that only you can access it by enabling 256-bit AES encryption. BackupAssist uses the enhanced security of TrueCrypt to protect the data on your backup destination. This is especially important for removable backup media and data that is stored offsite.

Customer testimonials

"We have 3 servers, 2 with [competitor] and one that wasn't backing up. I was looking for a solution for the 3rd server but didn't want to pay for [competitor].

"Your application was... much easier to use with the same level of protection."

"I'm glad that we found BackupAssist. Whilst we realise the importance of backups ourselves, it has always been difficult to sell to clients in small to medium business when we had to include software with a $1000+ price tag. BackupAssist will make the sale much easier not only because of the price tag, but because we KNOW that it works so well."

"NTBackup scheduling is clumsy and unreliable. Client did not want to spend on [major competitors'] products."

"Another Computer consultant evaluated, purchased and recommended this software to Network Integration Solutions Inc. Since then, we are so impressed, that as far as I'm concerned any of our new servers will have a license of BackupAssist to make the media management simple."
