Stopping Backups During Holiday Periods

While we love backups (It's our business!), there are some times they can be skipped. One of these times is your out-of-office holiday periods.

For most businesses, running a backup on a public holiday is unnecessary. For one, your data isn’t changing, so a fresh backup of it isn’t really required.

On top of that, if you’re using external media for storage (E.g. USB HDD, Tapes), it’s not very practical either. Let’s face it, you’ve got better things to do over a holiday then come into the office to change a disk – especially if the data hasn’t changed!

With BackupAssist, it’s easy to prevent backups from running on days your company has closed for business.

  1. Go to the Backup tab
  2. Click ‘Manage’ in the menu.
  3. Select your backup job and open it.
  4. Select ‘Calendar’ from the right menu,
  5. Right click on the day you wish to cancel backups.

If your business is not running for several days at a time, you could suspend the entire job rather than cancelling individual days. However, this runs the risk of someone forgetting to re-enable it (and data loss!), so it is not advised.
