BackupAssist releases Exchange Server brick-level backup and restore solution

Melbourne, Australia - November 13, 2006 - Software development company Cortex IT has released another addition to its popular BackupAssist Backup Software - the Exchange Mailbox Add-on, which allows the quick, easy restoration of Microsoft Exchange Server individual mailboxes and individual mail messages.

"The traditional way of restoring Exchange Server requires you to restore the entire Information Store, which could take hours, even if you only wanted a single email," said Managing Director Linus Chang. Restoring the entire Exchange Server Information Store (which can be gigabytes of mail data) is often a long and difficult process, requiring data to be restored to a non-production Exchange Server before re-importing the wanted mail items - often taking hours, explained Chang. The Exchange Mailbox Add-on extracts mail data to separate PST files, allowing users to restore individual mailboxes and even 'drag-and-drop' individual emails, calendars, tasks, notes and contacts from Microsoft Outlook.

There's the added benefit of having mail neatly grouped by date and ready for burning to DVD for offsite archiving, which is especially useful for compliance and legal scenarios, where separate archives of mail data may need to be produced for designated time periods.
