BackupAssist™ - How To Upgrade to v4

Our upgrade procedure allows you to easily try the new version of BackupAssist with minimum fuss, and upgrade if you choose to do so.

When you run BackupAssist v4 for the first time , you’ll be asked whether you want to import the job settings from your older v3 installation. Choose “Yes”. Your old settings will then be imported into v4, and the older v3 services will be disabled. You can then trial v4 for 30 days.

Please note: both versions can coexist on your system, but disabling the v3 services mean that the only backup jobs that will run will be those in v4 of the software.

If you like the new features in v4, then simply purchase an upgrade from http://www.backupassist.com/purchasing/upgrade.php to continue using the software. Then uninstall v3 of BackupAssist.

Otherwise, you can uninstall v4, and simply re-enable your v3 services to continue using v3.

However, we think that you’ll love our new version!

You can download the latest version of BackupAssist from: http://www.backupassist.com/downloads/

Below are two common “upgrade” scenarios. Please choose the one that matches your situation and follow the included instructions.

A) For computers with BackupAssist version 3:

Install the latest version of BackupAssist v4 on that machine and launch it to perform an automatic software upgrade to version 4. Please be aware that your computer needs to be running BackupAssist version 3.5.3 for the Automatic Migration Tool to work. If you are using an older version of BackupAssist v3.x, then the installer will automatically prompt you with a few steps to bring you up to version 3.5.3, before resuming the upgrade process to version 4.0.14.

B) For computers with BackupAssist version 3 and version 4:

In this case, you may have previously installed BackupAssist v4.0.10 (or older) on the same computer because you wanted to evaluate the software. You should uninstall any previous version for the migration to work. To uninstall BackupAssist v4.0.10 (or older) from your machine:

    1)  Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
    2)  If you have already purchased and activated your BackupAssist v4 licence you will need to de-activate the licence before you uninstall.
    3)  It is recommended that you do not keep your previous settings as this may cause problems with the migration. If you must keep your current settings in BackupAssist v4 please make sure that the names of the backup jobs in v4 are not the same as those that you are planning on importing from BackupAssist v3.
    4)  Install the latest version of BackupAssist v4 and run the migration.

Your computer needs to be running BackupAssist version 3.5.3 for the Automatic Migration Tool to work. If you are using an older version of BackupAssist v3.x, then the installer will automatically prompt you with a few steps to bring you up to version 3.5.3, before resuming the migration process to version 4.
