VSS Application Backup bug fixed in BackupAssist v6.1.2 release – download now!

December 14th, 2010 by stuart

Hi all,

As you may or may not be aware, BackupAssist v6.1.2 was recently made available for download to the public.

This is a highly recommended maintenance release that we’re advising all BackupAssist V6 users to install.

This release addresses a bug discovered within the VSS Application Backup functionality where it wouldn’t back up SQL databases if the timestamp and file size was unchanged from a previous back up.

It may be that the application hasn’t been used since the last backup or because the changes were made in a way that VSS wasn’t able to detect. This means that there may be some periods where the backup was reported as being a successful backup and yet changes to the VSS related data were not backed up at all. This is what has been addressed within v6.1.2 where the software will force a mandatory backup of all selected VSS applications (e.g. SQL, Exchange, Hyper-V, Sharepoint) to ensure that the backup is available for restoration. This doesn’t affect anyone using the Windows Imaging Engine, NTBackup Engine, and the Exchange Mailbox Add-on, SQL Add-on or VM Granular Restore Console Add-on.

You can upgrade to v6.1.2 by downloading the installer from http://www.backupassist.com/BackupAssist/download.php.

It’s a free update for all users running version 6 of BackupAssist and can be installed directly over the top of your current installation (no re-boot required).

If you have any questions or concerns about anything mentioned above, please don’t hesitate to e-mail us at support@backupassist.com for further assistance.
