BA4810: Bare metal recovery could fail with a BSOD. Change Data Container to VHDX to avoid the problem¶
| Error code | Product | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| BA4810 | BackupAssist | For BackupAssist 11 and later. |
Description¶
This warning occurs on Server 2019, when using Data Container in .vhd format (instead of .vhdx) for BMR backups only.
Resolution¶
Resolution 1 - Convert the .vhd to .vhdx format using windows tools (or 3rd party).
Check if Hyper-V manager role is installed on the system. There is no requirement to have any guests configured and the role can be removed after you convert the file over. In case if HyperV is already installed the role is already configured too.
In case if DataContainer.vhd is on E: then you can run as admin the following PowerShell command:
- Convert-VHD -Path e:\DataContainer.vhd -DestinationPath e:\DataContainer.vhdx
and delete the DataContainer.vhd file. After that the new backups will use VHDX container.
Resolution 2 - Remove/archive the existing .vhd and increase size of Data Container > 2TB by editing the job configuration.
Edit->Destination->Data container options->Container size or select the destination with more than 2TB free size with checked "Use all available space".
