Description¶
BackupAssist could not find the logfile from NTBackup. Your backup may or may not have been successful.
Resolution¶
Please check each of the three resolution steps below.
Resolution 1. Make sure that nothing is killing the backup process.
Please make sure that no person or other program is killing the NTBackup process or causing it to die. Please check that any scheduled AV scans are performed before or after the backup process, and that any security software will not block NTBackup from running or kill it during the backup.
Resolution 2. Check the timeout period and give NTBackup ample time to complete the backup
In the Administration Console, go to your backup job. Click the "NTBackup Options" tab and then locate the setting for the backup execution timeout value. The default value is 1200 minutes, or 20 hours. If you have shortened this timeout period, please increase its value. If you have kept the default value and still receive the message then it is probable that your backups are taking longer than 20 hours to complete. You should consider reducing the amount of data you are backing up; using multiple smaller jobs to perform the backup, or using faster hardware.
Resolution 3. Give your backup user NTFS permissions to write to the hard drive
The backup user needs to be able to write to the C:\Documents and Settings directory.
The easiest steps to give your backup user permissions to do this are:
- Make your Backup User part of the local Administrators group
or if you do not wish your backup user to be a local Administrator, you should:
- Open Windows Explorer, and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings. Find the "All users" directory, right click and choose "Properties". Under Security, add your backup user to the list and grant it full control on that directory.
- Do the same for the "Default user" directory.
