BA1030: NTBackup cannot backup from UNC paths using IP address¶

BackupAssist v8 and later don't use NTBackup. This article applies to BackupAssist v7 and earlier, which reached end of life on 30 September 2016 and no longer receive technical support. See Software end of life.

Description¶
Since NTBackup cannot resolve IP addresses , any folder mapped to the machine using IP addresses cannot be backup up using BackupAssist.
Resolution¶
To resolve this warning and be able to backup the remote files, please follow these steps (as a work around):
- Go to C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc on your machine and open up the hosts file (use notepad).
- At the very end, assign a name for the IP address you wish to use. For eg:- 190.168.1.15 LACIENAS
- In BackupAssist, instead of connecting to 190.168.1.15, connect to LACIENAS.
