BA1322: Cannot rewind the tape - possible hardware failure¶

BackupAssist v8 and later don't use NTBackup. This article applies to BackupAssist v7 and earlier, which reached end of life on 30 September 2016 and no longer receive technical support. See Software end of life.

Description¶
BackupAssist fails with the BA1322 error. Running the same job in NTBackup displays the following error:
Error: The device reported an error on a request to space backward by file marks.
Error reported: Hardware failure.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.
A possible cause for this error is outdated or faulty drivers for the RAID controller.
Resolution¶
Update drivers for RAID card.
If RAID is applicable, update the drivers for the RAID card.
