Description

When exporting individual email messages to PST files, one or more emails could not be exported. These emails were skipped.

There are a variety of reasons why this might occur.

The most common reasons are:

  • The email has an attachment that is quarantined by an anti-virus program
  • The email was detected as malware or spam, has been marked as dangerous, and cannot be opened or backed up.

Other reasons include:

  • The email was locked
  • The email is corrupt

Resolution

If you believe that the message is virus-infected, detected as SPAM or malware, then the recommended solution is to ask your user to locate that message in Outlook and delete it permanently using Shift-Delete.

Otherwise, there is no known "generic" solution that is guaranteed to work in all situations. The following a set of guidelines that can be used to try to solve this issue.

  1. If there are numerous messages in many different mailboxes that cannot be exported, and it occurs regularly, this error might be caused by an anti-virus program locking the attachments. Please refer to KB article A conflict with an antivirus program has stopped messages from being exported
  2. If this problem occurs only occasionally and to only a few messages, then it is likely that it is a problem with individual emails. The fastest solution is to locate the problematic emails in your user's Outlook folder and delete it.
  3. If this problem occurs frequently but randomly, it may indicate possible corruption with your Exchange database. If you suspect possible corruption, please follow the instructions at the following link to check the integrity of your Exchange database: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-ISINTEG-ESEUTIL.html
