BA2552: Your backup history was deleted because the destination media could not write data to the shadow copy storage fast enough¶
| Error code | Product | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| BA2552 | BackupAssist | For BackupAssist 10.4.1 or later. |
Description¶
The backup history is stored in the shadow copy storage of destination media. In this case, the software was unable to write to the shadow copy storage most likely due to underlying hardware issue or high I/O load on the destination media.
By default, VSS is configured to write the shadow copies of a volume to a storage location on the volume itself. This can result in very high I/O during the backup of a volume since the drive is experiencing load from the backup reading files, load from VSS reading from and writing to the shadow copy, and load from any other applications on the system using that same volume.
Resolution¶
The following actions can be used to reduce the I/O demand put on the destination media:
- Use a higher performance media.
- Make sure other process are not performing I/O operations on the destination media when the job is running.
- Re-schedule your backup for a time where there is less disk usage.
- Perform consistency checks (such as chkdsk) on the drive(s) which are in the backup set.
