Description¶
This error occurs when a TrueCrypt container cannot be mounted during the backup process.
Resolution¶
There are 3 known causes of this problem
Known Cause 1 – TrueCrypt container is located on a non-NTFS volume¶
The drive the TrueCrypt container is stored on is not formatted in NTFS, which prevents the mounting process from successfully completing. It is recommended that you format the drive with NTFS to avoid this error.
You can to convert the drive from non-NTFS to NTFS using the convert command in Windows. From a Windows command prompt (Start Menu > Run > cmd) type the following Where f: is the drive letter of the device you want to convert to NTFS:
convert f: /FS:NTFS
You can also type convert /? for further help using the convert command.
Note
Running this command will format the drive and all data contained on the drive prior to format will be lost.
Known Cause 2 - Windows UAC is turned on¶
Windows UAC is a security feature within Windows that helps prevent unauthorized changes to the system. This has been known to prevent the backup process from reading and writing files contained within the backup set.
To resolve this you may need to turn off Windows UAC. The steps to do this are outlined by Microsoft at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/turn-user-account-control-on-off#1TC=windows-7
Known Cause 3 – TrueCrypt Container is already mounted¶
This error can also be generated if the TrueCrypt container is already mounted within TrueCrypt.
You can check if the TrueCrypt container is already mounted by opening the TrueCrypt console.
The location of TrueCrypt is C:\Program Files (x86)\BackupAssist vX\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe where X is the version of BackupAssist you are running.
Should you find that there is a TrueCrypt container mounted already, click on the Dismount All button to release the container so BackupAssist can mount it again during the backup process.
