BA4800: Could not resize the container file

No technical support

TrueCrypt encryption was discontinued after BackupAssist v8 and no longer receives technical support. We recommend BitLocker encryption instead.

Error code Product Applies to
BA4800 BackupAssist BackupAssist 7.1 to v8.

Description

Condition 1

This error occurs when the size of the container file (e.g. TrueCrypt or VHD) specified in the job definition is bigger than the actual file size. This can happen when the size in the job is changed after the container file is created.Changing the size of the container is not supported by either TrueCrypt or VHD AP.

Condition 2

It is also possible to see this warning if you have been using Data containers and upgraded to v8.1.1. There was a Data container update in v8.1.1, that can cause this warning to appear.

Resolution

Resolution for condition 1

Changing the container file size can only be done by creating a new container and copying the data over from the existing container. Reducing the container size and keeping all of the existing data may not always be possible.

Resolution for condition 2

Move or delete the current Data container within your backup destination and then re-run the backup job. This will create a new Data container which will incorporate the changes made to v8.1.1.
