BA5215: The media cannot be made bootable because no additional partitions can be created.¶
| Error code | Product | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| BA5215 | BackupAssist | BackupAssist v9 and later |
Description¶
The backup job cannot make the media bootable because the maximum number of primary partitions already exist on the media.
The maximum number of partitions is:
- 3 for MBR disks
- 27 for GPT disks.
A new partition is needed to make the media bootable because none of the existing partitions are suitable. The reason could be that the existing partitions are not the correct format, they are full or there is no room available for the boot files.
Resolution¶
There are 2 possible resolutions for this problem
Resolution 1- Free up space¶
Free up 4GB of space on a suitable partition, so that the partition can be made bootable.
- For BIOS systems, this is a FAT32 or NTFS partition.
- For UEFI, this is a FAT32 partition
Resolution 2 - Delete a partition¶
If one or more of the existing partitions are deleted and make 4GB of unallocated space available, BackupAssist can create a suitable boot partition when the backup job runs.
