BA6991: Automount is disabled¶

| BA6991 | BackupAssist | For BackupAssist 15.0.0 or later. |
Description¶
Automount is a Windows setting that controls whether the operating system automatically mounts new volumes and assigns them a drive letter. System Protection backups need automount enabled so the backup can mount and access the volumes it works with; when it is disabled, those volumes cannot be mounted and this condition is reported.
Common causes:
- Automount was turned off manually, using "mountvol /n" or diskpart ("automount disable").
- It was disabled deliberately on a server attached to SAN or iSCSI storage - a common practice to stop Windows auto-mounting shared SAN volumes - which also affects the volumes System Protection needs.
- Storage-management or security software, or a Group Policy, disabled it.
Resolution¶
Automount was disabled on this system. System Protection backups require automount to be enabled so the backup can mount and access the volumes it needs. To re-enable it, open an elevated command prompt, run "mountvol /e", and then re-run the backup.
