BA7015: Cloud container's life-cycle configuration may interfere with cloud backups¶
| Error code | Product | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| BA7015 | BackupAssist | For BackupAssist 10.4.3 or later. |
Description¶
BackupAssist has detected that the cloud container being used as the backup destination has storage life-cycle settings enabled. These settings help manage the storage space used with online storage provider services.
Having storage life-cycle settings enabled can result in the permanent loss of backups. This happens when a chunk of the image backup has not changed for some time and is therefore deleted, rendering the entire image backup unusable. You may not know this has happened until you try to use the backup for a recovery, and find that the backup (and any other effected backups) cannot be used.
BackupAssist has its own space management functionality for online storage that makes sure backup data is stored correctly. No other tools or settings should be used to manage the online storage of BackupAssist backups.
Resolution¶
It's recommended to disable any life-cycle options on your backup cloud storage and let BackupAssist handle space management.
The steps to take will depend on which online storage provider is being used:
- Azure: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-lifecycle-managment-concepts
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/dev/object-lifecycle-mgmt.html
