Description¶
Cloud Backup periodically runs a garbage collection step that removes unused data chunks from the cloud container to reclaim storage. This step runs after the backup data and catalogue have been safely stored, and can be skipped.
BA7043 is a warning recorded when the garbage collection step encountered an error and could not complete. Because it runs after the backup data and catalogue are stored, it does not affect the integrity of the backup itself - it only means unused chunks were not cleaned up on this run. Common causes are a transient loss of connectivity to the cloud provider, provider rate-limiting, or a very large container exceeding the step's time budget.
Resolution¶
Resolution 1 - Re-run the backup (recommended)¶
Garbage collection is usually transient and retries on the next run. Run the job again, or wait for the next scheduled backup, and confirm the warning clears. Ensure the machine has a stable connection to the cloud provider.
Resolution 2 - If it persists¶
If BA7043 recurs, unused chunks may accumulate and increase cloud storage costs over time. Generate diagnostics and contact support - BackupAssist Support page.
